a father's plea

 Respected ma’am,

I, Suresh Sinha, an assistant manager at your firm, request you to kindly grant me a 3-month long paid paternal leave. In

view of the fact that my partner and I recently gave birth to our child and Ms. Nailea Sen, who is a Senior manager at the

same firm and also my partner in parenting our newborn, would like to focus on her career and I would love to harbor my

end of parental duties by staying home and catering to the needs and wants of our child.

I do very well acknowledge the fact that it is not our company’s policy to grant paternal leave for more than 3 days- yet

another patriarchal norm that predisposes it to be just the mother’s duty to raise the child; to which I have decided not to

succumb.

Our society likes to stay under the bell jar because lifting the bell jar would mean exposing the whole system of scams to

a bigger predator- Uncertainty. It is this fear that we often choose to stick to patterns and not deviate. When I first joined

in as an intern, I was told that this company constantly tries to recourse to actions that do not fall into the same old

patterns of oppression. Today, as a loyal employee of this venture, I request you to break the norms.

Yours truly,

Yet another parent

Suresh.
